The Legalities

Getting A Marriage Licence

• What is needed? Like the fast and easy reputation that is synonymous with Las Vegas, there are very few legal obligations to getting married here. Blood tests are not required, and there is no waiting period or minimum residency stay. The only thing you need to show is proof of age because you both must be at least 18 years old to qualify for a marriage licence. Acceptable forms of identification include an original or certified copy of a birth certificate, a passport or a foreign government-issued ID card. Faxed copies of birth certificates, damaged identification, privately issued IDs and check-cashing cards are not acceptable. Once you receive a marriage licence, it is good for one year.

• Where do we go to get it? The Clark County Marriage Bureau is located at 201 E. Clark Ave. in Downtown Las Vegas. It’s open daily (including holidays) from 8.00 to 24.00. For more information, call 00-1-702-385-8911. There is a second office located in Henderson at 240 S. Water St. It’s only open Thursdays and Fridays from 7.30 to 18.00 and is closed for lunch from 12-12.30 p.m. and on all legal holidays. For more information, call 00-1-702-455-1055.

• What is the cost? The cost of a marriage licence is $60 if you pay with cash, cashier’s check or money order. You can pay by credit card, but there is an additional $5 service charge. Only MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express are accepted.

• Can we get the application online? You can download the marriage licence applications. Both the bride and groom must complete an application. Just remember that these forms cannot be submitted over the Internet. You must bring them in person to one of the two Clark County Marriage Bureau offices listed above.

• Do we need an Arizona marriage licence if we choose to have our ceremony performed in the Grand Canyon? No. Although the Grand Canyon is located in Arizona, you can still use a Nevada marriage licence. The officiate will simply have you repeat your vows over Nevada airspace on your return flight, and this will satisfy Nevada’s legal requirements for the licence.

• Is a marriage licence required for a renewal ceremony? No, simply because it is illegal to hold more than one marriage licence in the U.S.

Getting Your Marriage Validated In The U.K.

• Is a Las Vegas wedding recognised in the U.K.? Yes, weddings held in Las Vegas—including Maverick Helicopters’ wedding ceremonies—will be legally recognised in the U.K.

• What is the process? If one or both of you are British citizens and your wedding has taken place in the U.S., which is a country that the General Register Office (GRO) can accept formal notifications from, then a legal record can be created for your overseas marriage. These are referred to as “Article 7 marriages.” All you have to do is deposit a certified copy of your marriage certificate and an Apostille from the Nevada Secretary of State with the GRO.

• How do we get these documents and how much do they cost? When the civil ceremony is over and the marriage certificate has been filed at the Clark County Marriage Bureau, you can request a certified copy. It costs $10 and can be ordered online at the Clark County Recorder's Web site. An Apostille may be obtained by contacting the Nevada Secretary of State. It costs $20 and can be ordered by mail or online. Once both documents have been received by the GRO, you will be notified.

• What if we have further questions? For more information about this procedure, contact the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Consular Division, which is located at King Charles Street in London. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 10.00 to 24.00. You can also call +44 (20) 7008 0186 or visit the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Consular Division online.

10 Reasons To Get Married With Maverick Helicopters

1) Our wedding coordinator will handle all of the details—saving you loads of stress and allowing you to have a worry-free day.

2) Your wedding will be not only be unusual, but—thanks the aerial element—it will also be very different from traditional U.K. weddings.

3) The setting will be spectacular. Whether you opt for the Valley of Fire, the Grand Canyon or the Strip at twilight or night, these are locations that you could never replicate at home.

4) Because the setting is so spectacular, your wedding photos will also be spectacular.

5) You—and your family and friends, if they are in attendance—will get to enjoy a holiday in Las Vegas. Instead of a special day, you’ll be having a special weekend or even week!

6) Your wedding is likely to be more intimate. It will be made up of your nearest and dearest (i.e., those who really want to be here), instead of traditional receptions at home that often include obligatory people from work and extended invites.

7) Everyone will be relaxed and socialising—as helicopter rides definitely are conversation starters.

8) The weather, although it can get hot, is usually sunny and beautiful. Unlike the U.K., the chances of rain here are slim.

9) As we like to say at Maverick Helicopters, this will be the “adventure of a lifetime”—which is the perfect way to start out your new life together.

10) And, by getting married abroad, you can begin your honeymoon immediately after your wedding ceremony is over!
